MORETON VOTES OVERWHELMINGLY AGAINST CDCs OVERDEVELOPMENT PLANS

In a clear and decisive rejection, 96% of those taking part voted against the proposals.

– 1,334 people took part in the vote (many more than anticipated!)

– 1,284 voted against the proposals

– 46 supported them

A huge thanks to the steady stream of residents who came to vote at our stand on the High Street on Saturday 8 June (684 in total), the rest voted on line/be email and a few delivered their voting slips to the CDC office.

The campaign team is very grateful to the town’s residents for all their help and support and our volunteers who helped with leaflet deliveries.

We’re delighted to know how many people share our team’s concerns. We will now meet to discuss the possible options to take the campaign forward.

An early priority is to call a public meeting with all residents invited to discuss how we can all work together to persuade CDC to reconsider its unacceptable proposals and consult more comprehensively with the residents of the town affected by their plans.

In the meantime, on Wednesday the campaign team will be delivering the ballot box and poll results to the District Council in Cirencester so it can be in no doubt about the strength of feeling here.

Whilst we hope that CDC will recognise this clear rejection of the existing proposals and revise them before consulting more meaningfully with the residents once more, we are clear that Moreton is ready to take them on if they are not prepared to reconsider, and we will need your help with this.

Those who agree with our views must come together and join the fight back so please keep an eye on social media for regular updates. The relatively few who do not share our anxieties will be welcome to join in the debate – we welcome all opinions.

Please also share this update with all family, friends and neighbours who do not use social media or the internet. Thank you.
