Campaign news, recent ‘Planning for Real’ event, CDC consultation responses and press activity

News about Moreton Against Over Development

Since the town meeting in August and the overwhelming support to create a ‘fighting fund’ to bring in legal counsel, the campaign team has been working hard on a number of areas.

Moreton Against Over Development is now an unincorporated association, with members elected to specific roles. This also means we can apply (and have applied) for a bank account which will enable us to begin fundraising. Work has been ongoing on both these fronts and we are very nearly there. Once the account is fully set up, we’ll begin fundraising – more to follow!

‘Planning for Real’ event

Several members of the team received invitations to the Cotswold District Council community event for a pre-selected group of Moreton residents, business owners and others. The event was to discuss future development in Moreton and used external consultants from ‘Planning for Real’. There was a lot of discussion though it’s fair to say this was in pretty controlled circumstances.

No real answers yet – but it’s clear the narrative has shifted from ‘nothing is decided’ to ‘infrastructure first development’. CDC acknowledge of course that there can be no infrastructure without development, so it remains to be seen how they will fund infrastructure before any new homes are built.

This video was recorded by Joe Harris – CDC Leader – for the event (as he was unable to make it) and gives an interesting insight into CDC’s thoughts. It seems clear now that development is absolutely planned for Moreton, so we will continue working hard to hold CDC to account and campaigning for their plans to be scrapped and a fairer and more equitable plan drawn up that spreads development across the district.

Cotswold District Council consultation comments

CDC have now finally published the full set of responses they received to the Local Plan consultation that took place earlier this year. While they do not provide any comment or reaction, beyond saying that the comments will be used as the Local Plan updates progress, it does make for interesting reading, particularly seeing the deluge of comments that relate to Moreton. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed.
